First Holy Communion

Our parish community prepares for the celebration of the first Eucharist through a programme called Do This in Memory. Put together by parents and cathechists, it started in Ireland in 2004. Coming from a deeply felt need to show that First Holy Communion is not about one day only, it tries to show that the main preparation for the sacrament should not take place in the school, but firstly in the family and then in the parish family.

Do This in Memory is a programme where, once a month October to May, we all gather together, the boys and girls from our parish who are preparing to celebrate their First Holy Communion, their families and our parish community. We look at different ways of what it means to be ‘in communion’ with the Lord and with each other.

The children are well prepared by their teachers and have many practices in the church before their reception of this very important and life giving sacrament.

Baptismal Cert:

The child’s baptismal certificate will be required to be handed into the school before she/he makes their First Holy Communion. The baptismal certificate can only be obtained from the parish in which the child had been baptised.

Following their First Holy Communion children need to be encouraged to accompany their parents to Mass on a regular basis to enable them to make a genuine commitment to their faith at the Sacrament of Confirmation in 6th class.
